Islamabad: Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif on Friday laid the foundation stone of Bhara Kahu bypass in Islamabad.
The 5.4-kilometre-long bypass including 1350 meters long overhead bridge will be completed in a record time of 3 months. According to Radio Pakistan, the Prime Minister directed National Logistics Cell to complete the project within three months instead of its earlier tentative time of four months. He directed that the quality of the project should be ensured. The Bhara Kahu Bypass once completed would not only benefit the dwellers of Bhara Kahu and its surroundings but also minimize the woos of the tourists heading towards as well as the people living in Murree and Azad Kashmir.
This project was conceived many years ago, but it faced delays. In April, last year, former prime minister Imran Khan inaugurated the bypass, but the project could not be started.
The 7.8 kilometers long bypass from Murree Road to Satra Meel was designed to provide alternate route to those travelling towards Murree, Galyat and Kashmir.
CDA, later shelved the project and instead of building a 7.8km bypass, it decided to construct a 4 kilometer with a one-km flyover, just to save costs and complete in a short span of time.
Barakahu bypass will solve the long-standing issue of severe traffic jams at Murree Road. the thickly populated area from Banigala to Satra Meel, has been facing the worst traffic for the last many years. Worst traffic jams are witnessed during peak working hours. Traffic congestion further intensifies during the summer and winter seasons, especially during weekends, when twin city residents flock to Murree and Galiyat. Sometimes traffic is stuck for hours. Not only the residents of Barakahu or travelers to Galiyat will be benefited from the project, but it will benefit the people living in areas near Shahpur, Satra Meel, Karlot, Chattar, Judicial Town Islamabad, and Tehsil Murree. The land prices in the above-mentioned areas are likely to swell further.
