- Uber stopped operations in 5 Cities of Pakistan
- Sister concern Careem to continue
“Uber remains committed to Pakistan — we will continue to serve these five cities with our subsidiary brand Careem and continue to operate the Uber app in Lahore,” the company said in a statement. Careem is a subsidiary of Uber. Uber bought Dubai-based ride sharing company in 2019 for $3.1 billion.
According to insiders, it was difficult to manage Karachi and Rawalpindi due to their large areas. Due to swelling fuel costs, the company failed an equilibrium between earnings and expense. The app-sharing drives charge drivers a certain percentage on their trips. Another app-based ride provider, InDriver, which rebranded itself as indrive in Pakistan, is now gearing up to fill the gap. Company's Public Relations and Communication Manager for South Asian Region Sidra Kiran told the media that her company was considering expanding into five more cities. Presently, Indrive is operating in 11 cities in Pakistan, including Karachi, Islamabad and Lahore.
