Islamabad: Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif announced on Tuesday that all public buildings of federal ministries and divisions across the country would be converted to solar power by April 2023.
He said this step will help reduce the energy import bill and generate cheap, environmentally friendly electricity.
"Reliance on imported energy, which is about $27 billion annually, is unsustainable," Sharif wrote on his social media account.
He said in his meeting with federal secretaries, he stressed to them the need for proactive leadership to complete the solarisation of public buildings. The Prime Minister promised that the entire process would be transparent, pre-qualified, and subject to third-party audit. He stated that his administration's emphasis on leveraging indigenous and renewable energy will not only make the country self-sufficient in terms of energy security, but will also provide significant relief to the common man by lowering his power bills.
