According to officials, all three militants were killed. Four officials, including two policemen and a Sindh Rangers sub-inspector, and a civilian embraced martyrdom, during the operation. One of the 19 injured is in critical condition.

Pakistan’s banned outfit, Tehreek e Taliban Pakistan (TTP), claimed responsibility for the attack, according to spokesman Mohammad Khorasani. Police have identified two of the attackers as belonging to North Waziristan, and one as belonging to Lakki Marwat.

The terrorists reached the Karachi Police Office building in a white Corolla at around 7 p.m.
Three security checkpoints at the entrance of the office were unmanned at that time. According to reports, the area where families of policemen reside has no security gate or any CCTV cameras.
The Interior Minister said the attackers made their way inside the multi-story building by hurling hand grenades.

As the attackers moved from one floor to the next at the KPO, they switched off the lights. Soon, a large contingent of law enforcement agencies reached the building and cordoned off the area.
Social media footage shows an attacker blowing himself up inside the building during the operation.

During the last few months, Pakistan has been under the grip of a new and intense wave of terrorism, and the police are the target this time.
